Nandgaon has many places filled with memories of moments between Radha-Krishna, Kanha and the Gopis. As we all know how naughty Kanha was, he kept on doing mischief with the people around. Kanha kept going around from Nandgaon to Barsana and he was popular in the villages around for his knowledge and mischief. Although most visitors only visit the most popular temples in this place, today we will look at some of the other spots that hold value in Lord Krishna’s life.
Yashoda Kund Nandgaon
Mother Yasoda used to daily bathe here. She occasionally accompanied Krishna and Balram, watching their youthful games with joy. Ma Yashoda would visit the temple by the pond after her bath and offer Lord Narsimhadev prayers for Krishna’s welfare. By bathing here, one gains wealth, food, and access to Baikunth’s abode. An ancient cave where many great saints have performed sadhana (spiritual practices) and attained the Supreme Lord lies at an isolated location near Yashoda Kund. Even today, devotees who have no attachment to the material world come here to perform bhajan in the same location where perfected, great personalities have done so.
Yashoda Kund and Karoharo Kund are close by.
Nand Baba Temple and Yashoda Kund are 1.1 km away. The distance between Aaseshwar Mahadev Temple and Yashoda Kund is 2.7 km.
Uddav Kyari
Uddav Kyari is the place where Uddav-Gopi Samvad took place. Uddav was Shri Krishna’s close friend from Mathura. Krishna sent him as a messenger to tell the Gopis and gwalas to forget Kanha and get into bhakti of the Parmatma. The famous historical debate between Udhav and the gopis occurred here. The gopis responded to his preaching in a satirical way and expressed their unconditional love for Krishna. This discussion is known as Bhramar Geet. Udhav, considering this to be a small job, travelled to Braj with his inflated ego. It was in this forest that he met Radha and other Gopis. His attempt to convert them to Gyan Marg failed completely.
Nand Bhavan Temple is also 1.1 kilometers from Uddav Kyari. Yasoda Kund is 1 km from Uddav Kyari.
Nand Baithak
Nand Maharaj would frequently gather here to talk about Krishn’s welfare with his older and younger brothers, as well as with the elderly gopas, priests, and others. They would gather here for discussions, hence, it is named “Baithak.” “To sit” is the meaning of the word “baithan.” The eighty-four Kosa of Braj Mandal contain several Baithakas of Nand Maharaj. There used to be regular gatherings like this where Nand Baba used to live with his cows, gopas, gopis, and other people. Choti-Baithan and Badi-Baithan are two other such Baithakas. This particular Baithak, or gathering, is described in the pastime that follows.
There is also a kund next to the Nand Baithak, that is known as the Nand Kund.
Nand Kund and Yashoda Kund are 400 meters away, which is about a 5-minute walk. Pavan Sarovar is 2.2 km from Nand Baithak.
My Experience
These places are a few of the many popular spots that still exist in Nandgaon. These spots help us devotees understand what the life of the Supreme Lord actually looked like. While I walked past these divine Kunds and spent my time around the place, I was able to picture life back then. It was a very peaceful and spiritual experience for me overall.
Very Informative
