Dwarkadhish Temple Introduction & History

Mathura, Shri Krishna’s abode, is one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in India. Mathura is very popular amongst devotees, for its temples and the spiritual vibe that it holds. One of the holiest temples in Mathura, the Dwarkadhish Temple, is well known throughout the nation for its detailed architecture and paintings. The temple, although only recently constructed in 1814, is widely recognised. The temple is devoted to Lord Dwarkadheesh, also known as Dwarkanath, a form of Lord Krishna represented by an idol made of black marble.

The enormous structure is made to appear even grander by a variety of exquisite ceiling paintings depicting various aspects of the Lord’s life and the exquisite Rajasthani architectural designs and carvings.

The temple and its surroundings, which are within the boundaries of the city’s holy gate and close to the River Yamuna’s ghats, are a centre for many attractions. Every day, thousands of worshippers come here to offer their homage.

The Vaishnava sect, which Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya founded, currently controls the Dwarkadhish temple, which is a hub for many exciting activities all year long, especially during the Shravan months when the Lord’s Idol is housed in a Hindola (similar to a swing set). Holi, Diwali, and Janmashtami are three other important celebrations taking place here.

My Experience at Shri Dwarkanath Ji Temple

Shri Dwarkadhish was also very crowded, like Shri Banke Bihari Temple. This entire place was extremely soothing. Seeing all the pictures and statues of my dear Kanha, I forgot all my worries and got lost in the love of the Lord. Although there was a crowd, my darshan was still done smoothly. I experienced the morning aarti, and it was quite beautiful. I suggest visiting during the months of February or March, as during this time it won’t be too hot or too cold.
