Maan Mandir and Sankhori Khor are both in Gehvar Van, Barsana. Barsana Parikrama is also called Gehvar Van Parikrama. In this holy parikrama, I was able to visit so many of the temples that come along the way.
Gehvar Van Barsana
Gehvar Van is the divine forest where Shri Krishna and Radha Rani did the Raas Leela. This place is also called Nitya Vihar, where Kishori ji and Kanha ji are present for eternity; theory cannot be separated here. This forest was very dear to Kishori Shri Radha Rani. It is considered to be a secretive place that holds so many mischiefs and memories of Radha-Krishna. It is said that every tree would become a Gopi during the Raas and dance along with Shri Krishna and Shri Radha Rani.

Sankhari Khor Barsana
Sankhari Khor is also called Sankhari Gali. It is 1580 years old. Shri Krishna demanded some donations every time the Gopis came here. When Thakurji asked for some donation to allow the Gopis to go ahead if the Gopi agreed, he would take the pot full of Makhan, if not, he would break the pot. Once all the Gopis decided that they have had enough of Kanha’s mischief. In a group, they all surrounded Kanha, so that he wouldn’t escape. Then they did his shringar like a lady and asked him to sit on the spot. The same spot is considered divine today.
In Sankhari Khor, at once only one person can walk, the path is very narrow. People around here say that this is one of the places that Shri Krishna passed by every day.
While I was walking by Sankhari Khor, I loved the fact that all the other devotees were patient enough to not overtake one another, which is quite rare. I could see so many beautiful spots here, such as Balram Dau’s footprint, Kanha’s hand-prints as well as his seat, Kamdhenu cow’s footprints. Even today, Shri Krishna is worshipped on the same spot, dressed up in a lehenga with shringar. To be present in the same place as Shri Krishna was a blessing I felt. To be able to visit the place where Kanha did all his mischief is unbelievable.

Maan Mandir History
While Shri Krishna was doing Radha Rani’s shringar, Radha Rani asked him to describe her beauty. Shri Krishna said that she is so beautiful that even words are not enough to describe her beauty. Radha Rani insisted, and Shri Krishna compared her beauty to the moon. Listening to this, Radha Rani thought that the moon has dark spots, and she was upset. She came to the same spot as where the Maan Mandir stands today. In Mor Kuti, Shri Krishna turned himself into a peacock and danced to please Radha Rani. Radha Rani was overjoyed, and her anger had vanished by then.
Maan Mandir is located on the Maan Garh, in Barsana. From here, the view of the entire Barsana was mesmerising. My darshan was quite pleasant. From walking around to see nature to actually doing the darshan of Shri Maan Bihariji and Shri Radha Raniji.
Gehvar Van is huge, there are so many temples here, as I mentioned in the blog earlier. Those who are just doing the Barsana Parikrama may choose to skip the darshan at these two temples. However, I recommend visiting both Sankhari Khor and Maan Mandir, as there is so much of history about Lord Krishna and Shri Radha Rani. Being in these places, I could feel what the Gods’ life must have been like. From a television screen to experience it in reality, it was a soulful experience.

Location
For all the devotees coming from Mathura, reaching Barsana via public transport (bus) is a convenient option. From Barsana, walking is a preferable option, as you can visit the other temples like Radha Rani Temple and more on the way. Then, once you reach the Gehvar Van, it is simply a mystical place.
