Parikrama is a part of every darshan for devotees. Barsana Parikrama is about 7 kilometers long (Badi Parikrama via Brahmanchal Parvat) and 4 kilometers long (Choti Parikrama). It is also called Gahvar Van Parikrama. In this parikrama, most of the Barsana temples’ darshan is possible. The parikrama starts and ends in the same place; hence, most people prefer to start it at the main bazaar. People say that 1 parikrama of Gahvar Van is equivalent to 7 parikramas of Govardhan.
The Route
While I began the parikrama, there were many temples along the way, starting from Chiksoli village. Some of them are Shitla Mata Temple, Sankari Khor, Radha Ras Temple, Maan Temple, Mor Kuti, Radha Sarovar (Gahvar Kund), Jaipur Temple (Dangarh Temple), Kushal Bihari Ji Temple, Laadli Ji Temple ( Shri Radha Rani Temple), Gomata Temple, Radha Ji’s Steps Darshan, Brahma Ji Temple, Sudama Chowk, Sakshi Gopal Temple, Daau Ji Temple (Shri Krishna’s elder brother), Sudama Ji Temple, Pathvari Devi Temple, Vrishbhanu Ji Temple (Shri Radha Rani’s father), Ashta-Sakhi Temple, Ladethi Laal Temple, Ganga Temple, Gopal Ji Temple, and Shyama Shyam Temple which are a part of the parikrama. I finally reached Shraddhalu Main Bazaar, the same point where I had started.
My Experience in the Barsana Parikrama
I loved the Gahvar Van Parikrama, especially because so many darshans were possible. I had not planned on visiting all these listed temples; however, it was achievable. The experience of walking with other devotees who shared the same sense of devotion and love toward God was very soulful and pure. To all those people planning to visit Barsana, I certainly suggest they complete the Barsana Parikrama.
How to Reach Barsana for Parikrima
There are multiple ways to reach Barsana, including by train, bus, or airplane.
Nearest railway station: Mathura Railway Station.
Nearest bus station: Buses start from Mathura itself or Vrindavan via Chhata or Kosi Kalan.
Nearest airports: Agra Airport (about 60 km from Mathura) or Delhi Airport (about 157 km from Mathura).
For the circumambulation of Barsana, it should start and end at the same point, no matter where you begin.
Best Time For Barsana Parikrama
Based on my personal experience, I recommend circumambulating Barsana in the months of February or March, as these are festive seasons and the climate will be suitable around this time. Occasions like Holi will make the darshan in the temples more lively and exciting.
Starting the parikrama in the early morning or evening is a better option compared to the afternoons, as walking in the sun may get tiring.
Where Can I Start My Parikrama?
The parikrama can be started at any point as long as it is finished at the very point. Some spots are the Main Bazaar or Ras Mandir.
